Category: Circal

Circal started as MyCalendone, a calendar that colors your day by your actual energy rather than your intentions. These are the build notes: why existing calendar tools fail for energy-aware scheduling, how sleep and mood inputs drive the color model, and the reasoning behind renaming the product six weeks out from launch.

Some of these entries are engineering. Others are marketing decisions I made badly the first time — including inventing a mascot to carry a productivity philosophy that was too abstract to sell on its own. Both are here, because separating them would misrepresent how the product actually got built.

Name Change from MyCalendone to Circal

The product was rebranded from the placeholder “MyCalendone” to “Circal” (a blend of circadian and calendar) because it is short, easy to pronounce, and describes the product’s core function without overpromising results. To navigate domain availability, the team adopted the practical prefix convention “trycircal.app” as an accessible starting point while focusing on clarity, simplicity, and shipping over cleverness.

Why MyCalendone (Circal)?

The “Why” — What is the real problem? Most people plan their day without any awareness of how their body will actually feel at the time they’ve scheduled something. A meeting booked for 2pm on a Tuesday sounds neutral on paper, but if your circadian rhythm produces a deep post-lunch trough at that hour, you will show up for it distracted and underperforming — and you will have no idea that moving it to 10am would have made it twice as productive.   The data to predict this already exists. It is sitting in your sleep log, your meals, your stress levels, and your own historical snapshots of how you felt at specific times of day. The problem is that nothing puts this data onto your calendar so you can see it alongside your schedule.   There are three distinct pain points this app addresses: 1. “I don’t know when

Captain Totie – A Marketing Concept

The traditional phrase “working like a dog” evokes images of endless, exhausting grind—putting in continuous hours until your energy is completely depleted. Yet, if you observe an actual dog, their natural behavior is entirely cyclical: they deploy explosive bursts of intense momentum when duty calls, followed immediately by deep, guilt-free recovery in the nearest sunbeam. Our latest marketing strategy for Circal (https://trycircal.app) directly challenges this cultural obsession with non-stop hustle by asking a simple question: “Don’t work like a dog!” — Why not? https://youtu.be/4sdPIJ82mlAAbove is a video that shows a dog-slinky hybrid. This is the genesis idea of Captain Totie.Meet Totie, a sleepy dog who found a way to flip the phrase from a warning about burnout into a masterclass in biological momentum: Work with fierce momentum when you have the energy, and rest completely when you don’t. Instead of meaning mindless, exhausting, 24/7 labor until you drop, it is
